Right, so I'm rumbled. My diplomatic relations had crumbled and they knew I was weak. Maybe I could buy them! I sent money repeatedly at Darius and Bismark and made sure that I traded as much as I could with them both. I just needed to avoid war for as long as possible! It is only a few turns after Bismark's frankly rude comments that I started researching Computers (the Tech before Globalisation) so I could see the finish line. Darius had also been stalled in his space flight efforts, his spaceship part production had tailed off completely so at least all the wars I had organised for him were having an affect.

I am so clever it makes my head hurt!
1968ad: Patronage Adopted - Gandhi has a feeling he may need those pesky demanding city states soon.
1969ad: Sydney Opera House built - in Dehli... wait...?
1969ad: Computers discovered - They turn out to be useless for anything but gaming... oh and porn.
And now to reveal the full genius of my well thought out plan, a plan that was totally pre-prepared and not an attempt to cover up inept but fortunate play with the impression of strategic foresight, finally produces fruit. Having milked the social policies related to research I now moved on to the Patronage policy tree which helps greatly with influencing city states. I knew I would need them at some point. Bismark sent me another threat and made a big demand a few turns later. At this point I was getting fed up with his constant empty interruptions so, in a lapse of judgement, I refused to acquiesce to his ridiculous demands. This may have been a mistake. War quickly followed. Oh bugger!
1974ad: Germany declares war - I totally did not forget to take screen shots of this declaration.

The brave Workboat heads stealthily to the enemy coastline to... er... look scary!
'W w w whhhyyyy,' Gandhi wailed while the Aide cradled him in his arms. 'We never did anything to them.' He sniffed and wiped the snot that dribbled from his nose to his top lip.
'Sshhh, I'm sure it had nothing to do with all those times you made all Bismark's friends go to war with him.' The Aide said soothingly while rolling his eyes.
'But. its. not. faaaiirrrrr!' Gandhi screamed burying his head in his Aide's tunic.
'I'm sure everything will be alright.'
Gandhi sat up, 'so you think we can win?'
'Oh god no, we're screwed!' The Aide replied.
'WAAAAAAHHHH'
'Ahhh crap...' The Aide sighed.
Right, what do I do? what do I do? oh crap oh crap oh crap. Imagine that for thirty turns. I was panicking. It's fine having a tiny military when you are at peace, but I couldn't even start to recruit any units. I could literally do nothing apart from buy a number of Workboats and send them to scout the German coastline I also recalled Dave my rifleman (who was also scouting) and upgraded him to an infantry unit. All I could do was wait for the ten turns to run out so I could frantically sue for peace. The next ten turns I played on the edge of my seat, waiting for the hordes of German troops to come sailing over the horizon like the Persians at Thermopylae. But they never came. Ten turns came and went, I tried desperately to plead for peace, but Bismark refused. This goes on for another twenty turns with him refusing every offer but making no attack. In the end the Indians and Germans were at war for thirty years and not a single shot was fired between the two belligerents. Peace was bought cheaply and I am left wondering why? Why did he declare war and then not do anything, it was really peculiar. I could at least sit back in my chair and carry on with my plan. But the war left me feeling slightly empty. I was ready for the glorious last stand. The partisan defence to buy the diplomats time. After five thousand years the only war Gandhi was directly involved with could be summed up in a single paragraph.
1981ad: Globalisation discovered - people felt very global all of a sudden. Construction of UN started.

Right it is on now, bring it on Persia... Peacefully mind.
1998ad: Satellites discovered - Weather prediction's became much more accurate... they were still wrong, but much more accurate about it.
During the war I finally finished researching Globalisation and start on the UN, which I decided to build in Delhi, I thought it was fitting to be in the capital. It was going to take twenty five turns so I redistributed my population to ensure maximum production, removed specialists from educational or economic positions and placed them in production facilities. I bought every building that would slightly alter my production capacity and after all this work I managed to shave five turns... five turns... off the build time. Why the panic? Well the war was over with Bismark, but another problem had resurfaced. Persia had beaten back the Ottoman's, their main rival, and were now furiously building spaceship parts again. The race was now officially an overused metaphor, also it was finally, definitely... on.
