A Betrayal of Pride

This is the story of a game of Neptune's Pride. It is a intergalactic real time strategy played out over the course of weeks. You simply log in, plot your moves and come back in a few hours to see what has happened. But then, it is so much deeper than that. It plays out more like a board game than a traditional PC game. And because of that it has inherited one of the best elements of playing board games; the interaction with your friends. Neptune's Pride is a game about growth, continual growth, and the only way to win is to form alliances and then betray everyone! Best of all it is played, for free, entirely in your browser.

The game I am sharing did not contain incredible tactics, or amazing last stands or entertaining role play. All of which I have seen in other games I have played. Instead it involved a lot of diplomacy and duplicity. I was given a terrible starting location and so had to rely on whit and charm to save my chances of victory. A hopeless cause. I chose this game though because of the way it made me feel as a played it. Over the course of two weeks I was excited, devious, smug, guilt ridden and more. I could think of nothing else and checked the game almost every hour. It got under my skin and made me actually feel something. And that is why I loved it.

Below are the links to the various parts of this story. Do enjoy and I definitely recommend playing it, especially with friends. However some friendships may not last past the first game!

Enjoy!
